Working a varied caseload within the community working with adults. Someone who has a car license and a car who can start immediately experience of using AIS would be desirable but not essential.

JOB PURPOSE

To work with disabled people, including older people, to promote functional independence in partnership with family and carers.

To identify cost effective solutions for independence problems, particularly in the areas of specialised equipment and adaptations for housing.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

To carry a caseload as allocated, with support of regular supervision from the Senior Occupational Therapist.

To visit and discuss with service users their needs in relation to their home environment, identifying with them their priorities and goals. Assisting them and their families and carers in planning realistically for the future, working closely with Community Care & Housing staff and others in formulating and implementing the occupational therapy plan and the care plan.

To provide recommendations for adaptations to property, in accordance with the relevant legislation.  This involves working with the housing department and with the environmental protection department on disabled facilities grants.

To provide reports for rehousing to the housing department and advice on the suitability and adaptability of properties.

To assess and recommend specialist equipment to meet the needs of disabled people and their carers.

To liaise with architects, builders and suppliers concerned with meeting the practical needs of disabled people.

To advise and inform disabled people and their carers about other services available.

To keep accurate professional case records and comply with administrative requirements as defined by council policy and procedure.

Undertake training as necessary to keep up to date with professional practise.  Demonstrate a commitment to and responsibility for own professional and personal development.

Specifications

  • Must possess a recognised occupational therapy qualification and be state registered.
  • It is desirable for the postholder to have two years post-qualifying experience.
